    1. Effective Help for Canine Hip Dysplasia
Canine Hip Dysplasia (CHD) is a genetic, painful, crippling disease that causes a dog's hip to weaken, deteriorate, and become arthritic. It is a congenital condition and is the leading cause of lameness occurring in the rear legs of dogs.
    2. Arthritis in Pets
Osteoarthritis is a chronic, slowly progressing condition that is caused by the breakdown and destruction of your pet's cartilage. As that occurs, the bony structures begin to rub against one another causing pain and discomfort.
    3. What is arthritis in cats?
Arthritis in cats is the progressive deterioration of joint (articular) cartilage. One or more joints can be afflicted with the condition. Another term commonly used to describe this condition is degenerative joint disease. When the term osteoarthritis is used, it usually refers to an extension of the changes into the bone underlying the cartilage layer.

Latest News of Pet Food Recalls

By J. R. Rogers

I do not like to get off message very often but this expanding pet food recall is becoming a real crisis. And, a few tips can possibly help you avoid a nightmare. After all, it is up to us as responsible pet owners to protect them from unnecessary risks.

Ingredients

The latest breaking news is that either or both rice protein concentrate or wheat gluten found in pet food products puts them high on the suspect list. And products that contain either of these are being recalled.

It does not take much effort to do a little screening of products before you buy them. That is, if you insist on using commercially available products for your pet.

  1. Look at label ingredients. If you see either of these in the product, do not buy it.

2.   So far, the only products being identified as possibly raising issues are
manufactured outside of the U.S. If the label is not clear as to “where”
the product is being made, ask the store. (Remember, some companies
import their products and they have a label indicating they are “distributed
      by” a U.S. company.

Watch for Symptoms

Is your pet suddenly excessively thirsty? Or, is their appetite just not what it normally is? If so, you may have a problem. If you are seeing symptoms like this, get to the vet. It is the safe path to follow. It goes without saying that if your pet is visibly ill (I.e. vomiting, etc.), you should be on notice that something is not right.

Use raw foods

For many years I have advocated feeding pets raw vegetables. The use of raw foods is a much healthier and safer diet and especially so for arthritic pets. If you have the time to do this, I strongly urge that you do so.

So far, the scientists are “mystified” about why there are problems with these ingredients. If that is the case, I think it is our responsibility to try to protect our pets to the maximum extent possible.

Hopefully, we can get some answers soon.

See you next time.
