Arthritis and Obese PetsBy J. R. Rogers Is it too late? If you read this column you know my position of arthritis in both pets and humans. Take a pharmaceutical-quality liquid Glucosamine product like Syn-flex® every day. And, get off the excess pounds and do a little exercising. Is Fido or Fluffy overweight? Unfortunately, family pets are often pampered when it comes to food. We tend to “over-feed” them at the slightest urging that comes from them. They are “beggars’ and we fall into the trap. But, there are two issues to think about before doing that. Excess weight before arthritis or after? If your family pet is obese they will almost certainly develop arthritis, hip dysplasia or some other joint-related problems. Common sense would dictate that we keep them at a proper weight by withholding a little extra food at times and giving them some exercise. And, if they already suffer from joint-related pain from arthritis conditions the excess weight is only making matters worse. (The same is true of humans of course.) Excess weight stresses joint structures and it makes pain worse for our pets with arthritis. A product like Syn-flex® is a good, solid way to deal with pet’s joint pain even before they develop problems. Liquid Glucosamine works to keep joint cartilage healthy. In brief, it is a preventive measure. And, if your pet is already having problems it acts to ease their pain quickly and begin the process of rebuilding damaged cartilage. It seems to me an easy choice If you as a pet owner suffer from arthritis I don’t have to explain what the pain is like. So, why not give your pets a chance to enjoy life if they are suffering these ailments. Hold back on the food; give them a little exercise and give them a happy life. See you next time.
